What’s on Your Mind (About Your Mouth)?
We spend a lot of time talking about teeth around here. That probably doesn’t surprise you. But some of the most important conversations we have actually start when we stop talking and listen to you.
Great Dental Care Starts With Listening
You know your smile better than anyone. You know what feels normal, what has changed, what has been bothering you, and what you would like to improve. We may bring the dental knowledge to the conversation, but you bring something equally important: your own experience. When we put the two together, we can provide care that truly makes sense for you.
Sometimes you come in knowing exactly what you want to talk about. Maybe a tooth has been sensitive. Something feels different when you chew. You have been thinking about changing your smile. Maybe there’s a question you have been meaning to ask since your last appointment. Other times, you may not be quite sure how to explain what you are noticing. That is okay too.
Tell us what you can. We will ask questions, take a closer look, and work through it together. You never need dental vocabulary to explain something perfectly. “This just feels weird” is a perfectly reasonable place to start.
Your Goals Matter
Every smile is different and not everyone wants the same thing from their dental care.
You may be focused on keeping your natural teeth healthy for as long as possible, or you might want to feel more comfortable when you chew. There is something about your smile you really want to change, or maybe, your biggest priority right now is getting back into a good routine.
No matter what your oral health goals are, we want to know all about them.
We believe your care should reflect your individual needs. That means listening to what matters to you before deciding what comes next. Because a treatment plan can look great on paper, but if it does not take your priorities into account, it is not truly personalized.
Questions Are Always Welcome
We never want you to leave an appointment thinking, “I wish I had asked about that.” If you don’t understand something, ask us to explain it. If you want to know why we’re recommending a treatment, ask why. If you want to understand your options, let’s talk through them. And please do not worry about asking a “silly” question. We are pretty confident there is no such thing when it comes to your health.
Part of our job is giving you the information you need to make decisions with confidence. We want you to understand what we are seeing and why it matters, rather than simply telling you what we think you should do.
Listening Helps Us Personalize Your Care
Modern dentistry gives us some pretty remarkable technology and treatment options. We appreciate having those tools because they help us provide precise, comprehensive care, but technology only tells us part of the story. It can’t tell us how you feel about your smile. It can’t tell us that a certain concern has been keeping you from eating a favorite food. It can’t tell us that you’re nervous about treatment or that something is important to you even though it may seem small. That information comes from you. The more we understand about you, the better we can tailor your care to your needs, comfort, and goals.
You Should Never Feel Rushed Through a Decision
Sometimes there is more than one way to approach a dental concern. When that happens, we want to help you understand your choices. We can explain what we recommend, talk about the advantages of different options, and answer the questions that come up along the way. Then you can make an informed decision about your own care. We believe that kind of communication builds trust. And trust is an important part of the relationship we hope to have with you for many years.
We’re Listening
Whether you have been coming to us for years or your relationship with us is fairly new, we want you to know that your voice matters here. Tell us what is working. Tell us what is bothering you. Tell us what you would like for your smile. Ask questions. Share concerns. And if something does not make sense, let us know.
Great dental care is not just about what we can do for your teeth. It is about getting to know you, understanding what you need, and working together to help you feel healthy, comfortable, and confident about your smile.
If you have not scheduled your next appointment, we would love to help you do so. We look forward to welcoming you back to our office located in Livingston, NJ, catching up with you, and, most importantly, hearing what you have to say.
